Day 19
Salzburg
Cold and rainy today in Salzburg. They are expecting snow on the alps. So you can imagine the temperature. Warm jumpers again make an appearance as we make our way to Mirabell Palace, from where our Sound of Music tour departs.
We hop on the coach and weave our way through the streets of Salzburg, while being entertained by the tour director, who is a wealth of knowledge on all things Sound of music and Austrian.
Our first stop is where the children fell in the lake, looking over to the Leopold palace. They used this building for the verandah shots in the movie.
It's raining quite heavily and the girls are feeling wet.
We then move on to Heilbrunn Palace where the gazebo from the movie is currently kept. On the way we pass the von Trapp villa but visitors are not allowed because it us used as accomodation for the Salzburg Music Uni.
We then head out to the village of Mondsee where the church from the wedding scene is found. We have time to look around, but it is still raining. The buildings are typical Austrian and are many different colours.
Time to head home. It was an entertaining tour and the guide was very good, it was a shame the weather was so bad. We felt a bit like we were living in the clouds.
After a rest in our room, the rain has eased and we venture out again. This time having a look at the Mirabell Palace gardens and the marionette theatre.
Renee is keen to see the house Mozart was born in, which is also a museum, so we head over for a look. This is quite interesting and has, on display, his first violin and several pianos on which Mozart composed.
Off for some apple strudel now and that's Salzburg finished.

Lyn Peters Sorry to hear you have had a touch of the wet weather blues - ours have cleared up for now and blue sky has returned. The animals, not to mention the humans are happy about this. Hope you have a good trip to Vienna.
