We had another egg coffee at a different location today. They are all very rich, sweet and creamy and we joked about had we seen it on the menu on our last trip, Sue would have really balked.
As with many streets in Vietnam, they are named after the group of business that do trade their. Today we no found what can only be described as "Hardware Street". There were stores selling everything from chicken wire to door handles. There were also shops manufacturing stainless steel food carts in the street. The steel tubes would extend out between the motorcycles parked along the road, the workers would cut it using a drop saw and then weld it together. The craftsmanship looked excellent. There was literally everything a kitchen could need.... including kitchen sinks!
We were learning to make sure our early morning walks weren't too far from the hotel because another toilet emergency was imminent. Fortunately this time we were ok.
We were ticking off various must try food off the list as we travelled. Bahn Mi (baguette sandwich), Bun Cha (noodle soup with fresh herbs), Banh Xeo (crispy pancake served in rice paper and salad) and street BBQ.
We took a wander over to the Cathedral. It was build on the ruins of an abandoned Pagoda by the French. Christianity was outlawed in Vietnam at one point and all the priests were arrested. This church wasn't reopened until 1990.
With a stroll around the lake we saw plenty of monuments and some lovely gardens along the way.
We had our first "getting to know you" meeting with our group. We were the only Australians but there were representatives from England, Canada, Germany, Ireland and the USA so it was a good blend of cultures.
