The bus offices here are so much like airports with check in desks, luggage area and boarding gates - so weird. On the bus Neil and I had two of the front seats so we settled into the 7/8 hour journey. I enjoyed watching the films - pleased they had English subtitles - while Neil listened to his MP3 player and watched Peru from the window. We travelled along the Pan American highway with the sea to the right and the sand dunes to the left before turning inland into the desert area. We were served a lovely lunch as we watched the scenery - again like an aeroplane - so weird! Getting off in Nazca we loaded our bags onto the waiting minibus (!) while we grabbed some takeaway chicken and chips to eat at the hotel. We checked in, ate our chicken and went to bed - a rather uneventful day had by all!

After showering we realised Neil had lost his yellow fever certificate. This certificate proves he has had the vaccine and is needed to enter some countries - including Brazil! After checking our bags and the room (a few times!) we went to the breakfast room where Neil ate up and I asked Eli (our guide) if he could call the bus company to see if they had found it. Unfortunately and not surprisingly they hadn't found it, so we will try and think of another way around it.
We were picked up by our guide at 9.30am. Neil, Sarah and I were driven by Antonio Banderas (the Peruvian one!) to a different look out point for the puzzling Nazca lines. These are a number of shapes and pictures drawn into the earth but you can only make out what they are from higher above them. There is much confusion and speculation as to how, why and when they were constructed. Our guide was brilliant and really showed a passion for the lines and Peru in general.
Back at the hotel we hung around by the pool reading and chilling out with the others when they came back from town, before getting ready for the night bus. After a short mini bus ride we checked in our bags and walked to the local supermarket for some snacks. On the way back we passed some local teenagers break dancing in the plaza - fun to watch and they were quite good. After a little wait we boarded the bus and settled down to try and get some sleep.

The night bus was a nightmare - I didn't have a great sleep at all due to the film being played 3 times and us getting a flat tyre! We finally arrived in Arequipa at about 8.30am.
Lots of love and snogs to all at home xxxx
