We got stamped out of Zambia an hour after setting off before waiting at the river's edge for the ferry. The Zambezi river marks the border just outside the small border town of Kazungula in the south of Zambia where we could see four countries at the same time, an area known as Africa's Four Corners. Standing in Zambia, on the opposite bank to the left was Zimbabwe, in front of us Botswana and 150m further to the right Namibia.
A short hop across the 400m wide Zambezi river and a step on a disinfectant rag (foot and mouth prevention apparently) and we were officially in Botswana.
With the campsite only 10 minutes away we took the opportunity to first go to an ATM to get some Botswanan Pula (another day, another currency!) and to the supermarket to stock up. There was also a KFC in the vicinity which received an ice-cream order from Kirsty!
Arriving at the campsite it was time for some lunch rolls before sitting by the pool for an hour or so. Our afternoon activity began at 2.30 as we were driven to a nearby jetty from where we got onto a boat for our cruise down the Chobe River. This was truly an unforgettable experience as we saw elephants, hippos and buffalos on the river banks while we gently cruised by. Further on we saw kudu and other antelope and elephants swimming across the river. There were also many birds including fish eagle and storks fishing from the banks for food. The cruise was amazing, the weather was perfect and we had a real feel that we were seeing all this wildlife doing what they do in their natural habitat. Thank you to Fung-Se and Mark for their contribution to this brilliant experience.
Returning to the campsite after sunset buzzing from the experience we were treated to steaks on the braai together with potato salad and mushroom sauce!
A fantastic day!
At around 6am the following morning those going on a game drive departed camp while the four of us staying behind caught up on sleep. At 8 we finally emerged from our slumber and were fortunate enough to be allowed breakfast before the others had returned.
