Bright and early this morning we set out for Seville driving the autostrada most of the way. Using the Nissan's trusty navigation we found our hotel, Taberna del Alabardero. Our suite was named Malaga and one of the seven rooms in this converted mansion. It is known for its fine restaurants and its culinary school. We dined here for lunch where I was served hake, the chef's specialty.
We walked to the nearby Maestranza opera house to get our bearings. Then to the fabulous promenade along the Rio Guadalquivir. It was a sunny warm afternoon as we walked the wide paved promenade lined with orange trees filled with apparently inedible fruit. It was here we were able to buy bus passes allowing sightseeing tours for our stay.
Our evening was spent at the concert of the Real Orquesta Sinfonica De Sevilla. The program conducted by Enrico Onofri consisted of a Haydn Violin Concerto No. 4 in G, and his Sinfonia, No. 96 in D, Sinfonia No. 6 in D minor of Luigi Boccherini and a short piece by Juan Crisostomo De Arriaga. The small chamber orchestra was very good and the program was well-chosen.
Walking back to the hotel, we retired after a very full day.
