Its boxing day, very hot (especially in this room) and today I have my editor (Darren) watching over. Though I am sure he's going to slip away at some point to sit in a hammock or go into the water!
Thank you for all the Christmas messages it really means a lot to us,we both felt the isolation and lack of Christmas festivities yesterday. Suzanne YOU SCARED ME!! We were sitting here and I was thinking ' really, would she really be that irresponsible!!!'. We spoke to our parents and siblings yesterday which was lovely we really enjoyed hearing everyone's voice. In the morning we were lying in bed pretending to ask one another to put the kettle on and while at it stick the sausages on low. At about 8.45 your time, we were in the sea and Darren turned around and said 'I know at this present moment there will be bacon butties being made in the Garner household. We were a tad hangover as well which didn't help! So we had fried eggs for breakfast, grilled squid, mix seafood fried rice and spring rolls for lunch. Dinner consisted of a big plate of prawns and well, we thought we ordered scallops which they call muscle snails, when they came out they looked like snails! we ate them, added to the experience but will probably not be repeated.
Phu Quoc is beautiful. Bamboo Cottages, where we are staying is owned by rather eccentric couple! The bay is bliss and our cottage is on the beach. It has been wonderful. Today we went snorkelling to two islands, the sea was very choppy which did not help. I was rather anxious and didn't paricularly like the depth of water. Darren loved it and took to snorkelling like a duck to water. Once I settled I enjoyed it. Simply fascinating. So we are watered out, very hot and tired and will probably have an afternoon nap then another dip in the sea. We did a bit of fishing afterwards and competitive Darren was not happy that I caught a fish before him, he did eventually catch one.
We leave tomorrow to spend 3 days on the Mekong Delta and will be in Saigon for New Years.
I promise I will do a Cambodia update soon. Cambodia was fantastic and is my favourite country thus far. Up loading photos is a bit difficult because the computers are so slow. If we do get somewhere with fast internet we'll send you some.
Take care and hope you all enjoyed your turkey and roast potatos! (Hmm roast potatos!)

lisa ellis Hi Both, Merry Christmas again! Its lovely to hear from you- I was a bit worried when there hadnt been an update for a while. Then Heather reminded me that you cannot always get a good internet access especially in Cambodia. Glad you went snorkelling - it is a bit scary at first but amazing, I always felt like I was flying. Your Christmas sounded a bit different to ours!! Although the kids kindly woke up after 7 Christmas morning which was a bonus- we all feel a bit deflated now but we are off to sunny Cornwall tomorrow for New Year- Hope you guys have a fantastic New Year and continue having the most wonderful experience. loadsa love lisa, mark and gangxxxxxxxxxxxx
keith Hi Tam & Darren “We were a tad hangover as well which didn't help! So we had fried eggs for breakfast, grilled squid, mix seafood fried rice and spring rolls for lunch. Dinner consisted of a big plate of prawns and well, we thought we ordered scallops which they call muscle snails, when they came out they looked like snails!” - And then you were sick, no doubt? Are you sure you’re not taking part in the TV program” I’m a back–Packer get me out of here”? :-) Whatever it sounds like you’re having great fun, and long may it continue for you both. Well Darren we sent your mom & dad back home at around 10pm Christmas night due to the fact that we didn’t have any more food to give them.... they do like their grub don’t they!! - We had an enjoyable day, and they have invited us round for a bite to eat New Years Day. Unfortunately, they have asked us to eat before we arrive as they’ve said they only have a small table and wouldn’t be putting a lot out. LOL Well have a very happy New Year and remember the weeks will start to fly by now, so enjoy every day. Best wishes Keith Avril Abi
Heather Hi Tam Remember that evening in October (the night of the traffic jams caused by the man on the bridge) at Snow Hill station when we said Goodbye, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Seems like aeons ago! And now here it is for real so Happy New Year both of you!! Have fun! Love Heather
