I took the train about 10 minutes walk away from my hotel and then had to change to another line to get to the Macau ferry terminal in HK. Ferried run every 15 minutes and cost about HKD159 or HKD149 depending in direction of travel. It's an extra HKD35 for checking in luggage which most I realized most other people did not do. I did not mind as it was easier for me. You have to pass through immigration on both sides of the ferry as Macau is a separate administrative region (SAR) from HK. It even has its own currency MOP which is almost equivalent to the HKD but both are accepted in Macau.
The ferry ride takes an hour. At the Macau end, there are shuttles run by all the major hotels and casinos. Caught a full tour bus sized shuttle bus bound for the Venetian. Macau is actually made up of 3 islands and the Venetian is on Cotai built on reclaimed land. Islands are connected by bridges and are probably one or two kilometers apart. I was not impressed that I had to load my bag onto the shuttle bus myself.
The Venetian is bigger than its Vegas counterpart. My room is the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed in and has a plush, opulent feel to it. Yet it does not feel like the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Can't really explain it but I think I have stayed in better ones depending on the category. Interestingly, it has a fax machine in the room. It cost about R2000/night excluding breakfast and the price goes up for Friday and Saturday nights. Wifi costs an extra HKD160 a day which is daylight robbery in my opinion. I stayed without Internet.
It has the canals and over 600 shops in the building. It is attached to other massive malls and casinos through walkways and bridges. Very upmarket. There are some Indians but they are employees and work in the restaurants. There were probably less than 100 Indian guests although there are thousands of people there. The casino floor is massive and full of Chinese people gambling. The game of choice appears to be baccarat. Some tables had a minimum bet of HKD5000.
Macau is my rest stop before India so I didn't do much other than walk several kilometers around the malls
