Our first nice thing was an upgrade on our Air France flight so we travelled in comfort, just a little win but a win nevertheless. Our next nice thing was a taxi driver who used to be a Grand Prix driver and who got us to our hotel in what I believe was record time, no bumps but a few near misses! Raises the heart rate without the exercise!! Our next nice thing was our hotel, all the appointments, king bed, easy clean bathroom stand in one position and clean everything and a lift which only takes 300 kg, we got in with a guy with a case, we just fitted, and said to him "do you weigh any more than 50kg if so start worrying" he turned white and was sweating by the time we got to our floor! We went out for a meal to a pavement cafe and sat at a table no bigger than a 50cent piece, two drinks and a bowl of olives and it was full! We ordered two grande salads which were absolutely delicious although we had to eat them on our knees, just kidding! We thoroughly enjoyed our first experience in Paris and sat there full of food and grog and at peace!
Next day we had a very pleasant breakfast and then walked to the Louvre by a slightly roundabout route which took us past a lot of sights which we hadn't planned on, but that's exploring, right? On one of our detours we ended up on a bridge, which proved to be over troubled waters but not for us! A lady accosted Sue and told her that she had dropped a ring, the lady had found it and wanted a reward for finding it. Apart from the fact that Sue couldn't get any more rings on her fingers the scam artist had seriously misread Sue and what followed was a finger pointing lecture on the evils of trying to deceive people ending with the universal shorthand for " go away".
Another win for the goodies. The Louvre was amazing but extremely crowded so we bought tickets for the next two days and went for a meal at "restaurants of the world" which really was true. There were about 15 cuisines represented and it was very difficult to choose. There was no KFC or MacDonalds very refreshing. We then walked back to our hotel stopping at a cafe on the way for a few drinkies and watch the world go by, this has become a habit! I know why all the cafe seat face outwards, it's so that you don't miss the action on the street! Later that evening we had a meal at an innocuous looking pavement cafe and had a couple of meals which could have been presented at any 3 hat restaurant. That is something we have found in Paris that wherever you eat, it's always good! Sue had a fillet steak which was even better than Alfie Langers at Caloundra Qld at that is high praise. I had raw marinated salmon, finely chopped and combined with garlic, onion, herbs and capers and formed into a patty with toast and a heavenly sauce, to die for!! An exhausting day with a great ending!
