Highlights of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday:
Viernes
1. Mi mama put me on a detox diet to "limpiar mi sangre" of the poison ivy toxins. At first it was a good idea (you all know I love to eat healthy) but eating only fruits and veggies was not working for me...I snuck in other food all day :)
2. First trip to Madrid! Rode the train with the whole group to the city for a tour. Ate ice cream at the Royal Palace, followed Esteban on a whirlwind historical adventure, and saw the entire city from atop a museo (muy hermosa!)
3. Walked entirely too much. Got cranky because I was tired, sore, and sick of hearing random information about Spain.
4. Went back to mi casa to eat dinner with mi mama and talked for a long time about my day, her day, men, Madrid, and life.
5. Went out on the first Friday night of the semester...six of us went to a bar called La Ruina for drinks (hello again, Coca Cola) and then three of us went to the local dance club, El Can Can. Of course it was only 12:30 so we were the only ones there (everyone goes out at 3 a.m. here!), but we had a great time learning to DJ, learning to salsa, and dancing on an empty dance floor.
6. Creeper man appeared (a.k.a. Nacho) and we all decided to leave the club quickly...best decision we made all night!
7. Talked to my novio on skype and also talked to my amiga mejor on Facebook <-- miss them both so much!!
8. Sleeeepp around 4:30 a.m. YIKES
Sabado
1. Woke up at 9 a.m. to eat breakfast and get ready for a day of shopping in Madrid with Maggy and Lauren.
2. Figured out foreign ATM machines, bought a train ticket to Madrid, rode the train, switched trains, and arrived at La Plaza del Sol all by ourselves.
3. Asked around for a good restaurant and found one that serves a three course meal for 16 euros (which I found out later was not a good deal!). The atmosphere was fantastic--we sat outside on the terrace and watched Los Espanoles walk by, sipped our wine and water, and ate delicious food (for me, gazpacho, steak and a potato, and some very good dessert). We were so excited that we ordered and paid for a meal without any help and felt like such big girls :) I also decided that in that moment I could not be happier because there was nothing in the world bothering me and I was simply enjoying life!
4. Left in a hurry because a creeper WOMAN approached us and got up in my face and then sat down next to us. Mom, don't worry, it's not as bad as I just made it sound!
5. Shopped in several stores, bought a hot pair of black boots, got sensory overload from all the clothes, people, smells and sounds. People watched in the plaza with Lauren while Maggy shopped. Ate gelatto and felt immediately better.
6. Went back to Alcala and slept from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. with only a few breaks in between to skype with Joel and mom.
Domingo
1. Met my aunt and cousins--they all thought I was sick or dead because I slept for so long.
2. Spending the day relaxing: catching up with people, skyping, updating blog, reading, and..wait a minute...actually enjoying a Sabbath? Since when?
I LOVE SPAIN :)

momma Oh, Sweetie, HOW FUN! So glad that you are exploring and getting a chance to learn about "life"! Keep up the great work on the blog! Loved seeing your little faceon skype... love you mom
Aunt Ellen I didn't see "going to church" in this whirlwind of activity (haha - just kidding). You're right - 16 euro is not an inexpensive dinner. Don't spend all your money too early in your trip (I did that when I went to Europe in high school). And it sounds like you're becoming a night owl like me! Good luck with your classes next week.
Shelbe Yes unfortunately the closest Protestant church to me is about a 40-45 minute walk. Yikes. Still trying to figure out a bus route. I could go to the Catholic church next door, but then I would be double confused because I don't know their service AND I don't know the language very well haha.
Morgan Wesner Tilly! I love reading your blog! It sounds like you are having such a wonderful time!!! :) I am so glad everything is going so well!!
