Here's my honest opinion of Hue... pass straight through. Unless your really interested in war history and want to go to the demilitarized zone there really is very little else to see or do here.

We thought we'd give the purple palace a go and the most impressive thing we saw was the hundereds of Koi swarming to the surface when people threw them food, it really was great and the highlight of Hue.
