The night buses are nothing like those in india which in some circumstances Ii am thankful for in others, not so much. You never get to sleep well due to being bumped around and thrown about. Vietnamese sleeper buses are on 2 tiers and you get your won chair with the main seat back that reclines so you're almost lying down once fully reclined. There's also a toilet onthe bus very handy but not a great factor if your seat is located directly above the stinky thing, and yes that's what i got, oh joy of joy! Aswell as that the seat has no leg room and barely reclines, so i spent the whole 10hr journey with my legs curled up on a slight recline with wafts of p*&s to enjoy everytime someone went.
We arrived in Hoi Ann to RAIN!!! NO NO NO NO NO!! It was the first proper rain we'd seen in ages, the horrible drizzle and grey skies, if i we wanted that we'd fly home! It did eventually stop but we spent most the day cathing up on sleep so not much missed there.
We met up with Mike and Casey again and enjoyed a lovely glass of bia hoi for 4000 dong which is approx 12p and naturally that lead to another late night, no surprises there then.
Hoi Ann is great for gettgin tailor made dress, skirts, suits, shoes pretty much anything totally tailored to you and as cheap as you like, you can even go in and show them a picture of what you want and theuy'll have it ready for you the next day. We unfortuantely didn't take advantage of this complete bargain, I'm not upset honest, Mike and Casey ended up having to buy a suitcase to take back all they've brought, it's ok for them as they go home soon but for us with pretty much no time limit it's not the best idea to have talior made copy gucci dresses stuffed into a back pack!
We chartered a fishing boat for the day which was great fun although out of the 5 of us only Casey managed to catch a fish, i had the same shrimp for 5 hours and not one bite! The next few minutes after our one and only catch was quite, in a word....horrible and um well i'll leave you to decide... The captain eager and pleased for us asked if we wanted our fish for lunch, ok why not?? Off he went with the fish ripped the hook out of it's mouth, squeezed it's head in both directions then threw it into the frying pan of hot oil, scales, guts the lot. I can't lie it was flipping about and i'd like to think it was the nerves rushing around it's body not the fact that it was more then likely being fried alive. Yep not quite the way i'd pictured lunch to be cooked.
That said it was really tasty as there was no special way of cooking it just served up, yep head an all with soy sauce and a chilli dip... quite amazed but delicious.
We really loved Hoi Ann although we are beginning to see how the Vietnamese treat their animals.... nuf said.xx
