Ok all plans have changed, we are now cutting Malaysia short and spending 3 days here and bringing our flight to Perth forward, YIPEE!!!
We had planned on going to the Perinthian islands but we've done quite a bit of island life and really quite fancy getting back to a western world after 5 or so months of and Asian lifestyle, noodles, rice, bargaining constantly, squat toilets, language barriers. We want some home comforts, like salt and vinegar crisps for a start, why aren't they sold in Asia? Walker's you're missing a trick there!
We arrived into KL on the 4th April and decided to pay a bit more for a hotel as we'll shortly be living in a campervan for 3 months and, really why the hell not?! It was a great treat we even had concierge to take care of our bags, heaven!! Oh oh and room service, ha ha!!
The GP day started off with us over sleeping, oops, never mind we still had loads of time to get to the track which is actually an hour away for the centre of KL. In typical Malaysian style the rain teemed down just as we were due to get off the bus. Apart from soaking us through it was quite a pleasant rain bit like being in a warm shower, not cold and horrible like English rain.
The rain stopped and we made our way to C2 hill stand which had a great view of a straight and 2 corners, good chance of seeing a crash. It was bloody roasting after the rain cleared and i finally succumed to using an umbrella (asian style) to shield me from the sun. The parade of srivers went around we all waved and squinted to make out who was who and 15 moins later the squeal of tires exploded into the air and it's all go!! I have never been to a race before and wasn't 100% how i'd like it but it was great, what an adrenaline rush....32 laps later and with the dark rain clouds opening again put a real dampener everything and the race was called off. It has rained everyday at this time why on earth did they start the race at 5pm, idiots!!
We all hung around waiting to see if it would stop so things could start again but no luck, so we had to scramble in flip flops up a really muddy path that previuosly people had been sliding down, to get out of the gates. The rain stopped again and we decided to make a move to the concert, this is where my blood started to boil. Having been in event organisation things like the following really bug me...
There were no signs directing people to the concert entrance so everyone followed the lights of the stage, but this took them through the main carpark that thousands of cars were trying to leave from, grrr, then we saw a huge queue of at least a few thousand people all being checked through a tent the size of a garden gazeebo. They were expecting 50.000 people to go to the concert!! Well sure enough with no signs and no crowd control people were pushing in left right and centre surging towards the bit of plastic which was the excuse for securtiy and only 2 crowd steawards shouting "pleae respect the queue" Yeah good luck mate!
We finally got in and it starts to rain again, beautiful. I'm quite p*ssed off by now just want to see Jamiriquai and b***** off home, but first we had to endure the pain of an Indonesian band. Things started to perk up with a beat box band who were fantastic, then JK came on and he was well worth the wait.
It day sounds a bit of a let down but we did have a really good time and plan to go to another GP at some point, maybe in OZ?
KL is full of shopping centres, and high rise buildings, not a great deal to do apart from shop and go up the Petronas towers, which we did and was great to see the view from the bridge.
We came across one shopping mall which actually had a theme park with roller coaster inside!! Yes Nicky a huge shopping mall with roller coaster, died and gone to heaven!!!!!
3 days in KL done and we're now in the airport waiting to board our flight to OZ!!! Jay and Karissa see ya soon!!
