I actually manage some sleep on the night bus to Trujillo and feel up to a days activities. I hook up with a young American couple and we plan to hit the Moon Temple and Chan Chan before catching another night bus to Huaraz at 9pm. Now thats efficient travelling.
Another Combi and we arrive at the site of the Moon and Sun temples, again by the Chachopoyan people although they later abandoned these sites for the city of Chan Chan at around 1000AD. Loads of voluntary sacrifices occurred at these sites to apease the gods and I was really impressed with the Moon Temples quality of restoration. Again in mud brick but due to sand burying it for rather a long time it is in pretty good nic.
Following lunch in a Chifa (chinese) we head off to Chan Chan, an old mud city of some 10,000 structures where we wander for several hours again admiring the wonderful and long lasting mud. The structures are more rounded here and the colors against the sky are amazing. We really are being lucky with the weather along the coast.
Nearly forgot...on the way to Chan Chan we had a crazy señorita driving us in a car that resembled a tin can. Not a good idea and low and behold after several near misses we were involved in an accident, although to be fair it wasnt her fault. A motorcycle smashed into us from behind without even braking. I felt a massive jault and then saw a guy in nice jeans fly though the air next to the car and hit the bitmac...Ouch, but he got up and walked it off. The back of the car was a write off and the two Americans has glass in their hair, shoes and even undies.
The night bus ride from Trujillo was pleasant, although no dinner was served this time and after a nice sleep I arrived at Huaraz at 6am.......
