We left our rather palatial accommodation with the triple queensized bed at The Thistle in Haydock and headed to The Lakes District in search of a quiet acre or two. The only sound we yearn to hear is the baaing of sheep and swooning of swans as we view from our B&B window views of lake Windermere from our lofty height.
We reach the picturesque town of Winderemere with it's prettily decorated houses, window baskets, displays and containers of petunias and large begonias lavishly decorating every nook and cranny of this dear town and invite ourselves to Lazy Daisy's for an English tea and scOne with clotted cream and jam. Amply satisfied we now search for our "dream shack" in the Lake Districts highlands. We haven't booked of course!!
Much of the accommodation was already taken as much to our surprise these jolly tourists had descended upon suitable lodgings.
We toddle along knocking and viewing B&Bs along the way finding all sorts of offers of accommodation but the wrong price tag even ventured into lodgings far above our expectations but also outdoing our pockets until we nearly reach Keswick and low and behold beyond our wildest imaginings in the middle and off to the side a little our retreat for the next 3 nights and there we rest and retire early - not before we dine at "The King's Head"
