We are partaking in a 4 course meal tonight including the appertif ( fresh pea green chilled soup) and drink drinks drinkees
To start at the beginning; we walked thru the villages of Seguret and Gigondas another beautiful village of Provence, cobbled streets, ancient homes, communal wash basins, fountains. We cast our eyes out over strategic vantage points and are greeted with a sea of green grapevines waving at us seeming to carpet the Rhone Valley; the Mount Ventoux, ever present and imposing.
Our walk is always up, up, up and up again. Felt like we had climbed Mt Ventoux again; and again, as our guide (Anne-Charlotte) is so fond of saying 'always up' when asked our direction. This time we are climbing parallel to the 'Dentelles' with a razor-back crest dominating the skyline; apparently very popular with climbers.
The notable vines are the Grenache and Syrah grapes that are renowned for producing Gigondas wines, the second best wines in France. My tastebuds disagreed. ( so did Steve's)
We reached Gigondas some 4-5 hrs later walking in temperatures of 34•c+ in the shade and were greeted by a Church beautifully adorned in peonie roses, lavender and gypsoflia. ( a wedding taking place shortly) then a gelato of course!
