We all met together after breakfast and were transferred by taxi from Avignon to Bonnieux which is nestled in the heart of the Luberon. Massif the village of Bonnieux is crowned by its 12th century Church and a place to enjoy far-reaching views of the plains the Rhone valley and the medieval villages that sprinkle the landscape. Also the home of Pierre Cardin, who has purchased the bulk of a village with an imposing chateau of course. Rather ironic that the name of the village is Lacoste.
This was our first introduction to the lavendar fields the cobbled and stoney lanes and the stone houses hand made by the settlers who first entered this masterpiece of history. The stone houses are still retained and repaired today as they were centuries ago so the tradition is kept and skills maintained
We lunched in the shelter of a borie which is a centuries old dry stone hut used for storing implements for working in the fields. This was chosen by Charlotte and what a delight to the tastebuds. Wine, cheese bread, pate, olive paste, sausage, fresh tomatos, cherries & rock melon. Did i mention the wine
