Malanda 13/9/15
Making our way to the Atherton Tablelands via Hervey Range through to The Lynd junction and Kennedy Highway to base ourselves at Malanda for one week. It is so diverse on the Tablelands, beautiful rich red volcanic soil, crystal clear crater lakes, waterfalls, galleries, wineries, coffee and tea plantations and boutique cheese and chocolate eateries attached to working dairies, not forgetting all the fresh produce and the strawberry farm with ice cream made on pure cream !!!Delicious! The bird life is plentiful, especially where we are camped on the edge of the North Johnstone River/ Malanda Falls backing onto the rainforest. We sighted the rare Double Eyed Fig Parrot. Even though we have travelled to this area many times over the years, this is the first time we have had the opportunity to spot the elusive tree kangaroo in the rainforest and a playful platypus just in a rockpool at the base of the falls. This would have to be one of our favourite destinations!! Photo -Malanda Falls
