Berry
26 Feb arrived Berry Showgrounds in the City of Shoalhaven Region.
We drove up the winding scenic Kangaroo Valley Road to the township. Took the scenic loop to Camberwarra Mountain lookout some 2200 ft above sea level overlooking Bomaderry and Nowra. Sadly it was a hazy day but on a clear day we believe views can been seen through to Jervis Bay.
We woke up to markets on our doorstep on 1stMarch, so after a quick short breakfast we headed for the markets, full of fresh produce. Filled the camper pantry and purchased some local craft created by very professional people.
Headed south of Nowra to Greenwell Point, Crookhaven, Callala Beach and beautiful Huskisson and the even more impressive Vincentia with houses perched on cliffs - amazing views over Jervis Bay. Followed Jervis Bay to Greenfields Beach( worth a visit) and took the short walk through Scribbly Gum forest to the spectacular white sands of Hyams Beach (see photo). We still think Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday's takes the award for the whitest sand!! A short trip back to Vincetia Golf Club to discuss our travels over a beer before driving back to Berry.
Travelled to Shoalhaven Heads then North to Gerroa and Gerringong both with beautiful coastal views.
Another day we took scenic drive 9 from Kiama to Jamberoo, continued on Jamberoo Mountain Rd to Robertson and sampled the famous local pies- recommend pepper steak pie and apple turnover. Best pies ever, worth the distance. Home via Illawarra Hwy through Albion Park, Bombo Headlands and checked out the Kiama Blowhole.
After some windy and cool weather, we took the train to Kiama to the wonderful Jazz and Blues Festival. Some great musicians - enjoyed a good day out. Some interesting scenery through pastoral and coastal areas on train trip. Our last night was a little distressing listening to the bellowing cows just separated from their calves but that's what rural living is all about. Time to move on from Berry - really recommend Berry as a base to visit this beautiful region.
