Well it has been a little over a week since I last posted a blog and we have done a lot and seen a lot since then.
On our last day in Broome we caught up with The Haggarty's, who had come up from Port Smith to see us. We enjoyed lunch on the waterfront at Cable Beach and compared notes on places we had seen coming across the country.
On Monday morning we set off bright and early for Middle Lagoon. It is only about 140 klms up the Dampier Peninsular but the road proved quite a challenge, full of corrugations and lots of sand. It took us longer to travel the 90 klms of dirt than we expected but we made it in one piece, just a little shaken. The last few klms before the turn off to Middle Lagoon changes back to tarred road and we visited a lovely church at the Beagle Bay community.
When we arrived at Middle Lagoon the atmosphere was a little relaxed. They told us we were on site 2 and gave us a map of the park, or should I say paddock. The only trouble was there were half a dozen 2's on the map. It ended up that we could pick our spot as long as no one else was occupying it. We camped under three trees for shade and didn't count on the winds getting up during the night and me waking Steve to investigate who or what was hanging around outside the van when the branches hit it. Middle Lagoon was a very restful and pretty spot to spend 3 days with not a lot to do except swimming, fishing, walking along the beach or sitting under a tree to read.
We did discover a lovely cafe one afternoon that was in the middle of nowhere but had a magnificent view and good coffee and cakes.
Whoops I have run out of time and we are packing up to leave Broome but I will bring you the continuing story tonight when we reach Derby.
