Having gone a little out of our way to visit the coast we headed back in land and crossed from Kerala to Karnataka. After a day spent on those lovely plastic bus seats we hopped off in the town of Kushalanagar. Probably the least pleasant place we've stayed with constant power cuts, pushy rickshaw drivers and dead rats in the road!
To escape the town for a little I left Alison who wanted to laze around the hotel room to spend a couple of hours in the Namdroling monastery which is home to a large Tibetan community. It was on the whole a very peaceful morning visiting the temples with their huge golden statues of buddha and strolling around the gardens listening to the music and chanting of the monks. The peace was momentarily broken by an invasion of school kids who stormed into the temple, they did have an interesting follow up to the usual what is your name question which was to ask if I'd had my breakfast! I also had to pose for about 20 photos with a group of Indian guys who wanted to prove to their friends back home that they had indeed spoken to a white man, indeed one will be able to say he's held hands with a white man as he quickly slipped his hand into mine just as the photo was being taken.
After this peaceful morning I returned to my lovely lady who was bemoaning the power cut which had deprived her of Indian wipeout (not the Paul daniels one the running over inflatable balls and falling into mud one). after a tasty brunch of curry and Parotta we headed off to Mysore where this and 4 other blogs have been prepared for your perusal.
Two weeks today we'll be home!!!
