Day One
So after having a chilled out night in our hostel and getting excited about our Skydive we left Waitomo. We travelled 125mins down the road to check out the famous Haka Falls. The Falls were really good, they were 11meteres and current was really rough.Apparently two people have died there as they tried to Canoe down it….Crazy.Anyway after taking some nice photos we then had a steady drive through to Taupo for our Skydive. We were well excited, we were meant to jump at 1pm that day, but unfortunely the weather turned when we got there and so we had to re-arrange it for the next day.Disapointed we decided to go and check Taupo's shopping out, fortunately for our bank cards the shops were rubbish so we ended up going to the pub!As it was our first day on the bus we thought it would be a good idea/place to get to know people! (Well that was our excuse anyway!)In the end we stayed in the pub until 10.30pm that night. We had a really good night getting to know people!Loz even pulled a 70year old, Geremy! He was quality, bless him, he even joined in our drinking games!!After having far to many drinks we decided to hit the sack at 10.30pm ready for our Skydive in the morning at 10am!
Day Two
So today was the day!We were all really excited but apprehensive too.We woke up at 8am, there were clear blue skies and the sun was shining, was definelty going to be jumping today!! As we couldn't sleep thinking about it we all used the net.I spoke to Claire and Jess which was cool, they couldn't believe I was actually gonna do it!!
The bus arrived at 10am to pick us up.It was a 5min drive to where we were doing it.It wasn't good filling in the form to say that the jump and could cause injury or even be fatel! But we signed our lives away anyway! When we arrived at the place we had a talk and watch a DVD.At this point you could tell we were all nervous! We were the first to go out of group so we got suited up in our sexy red overalls with our hat, goggles. And this is when we met out Jump Master.Mine was Rhys, he was a really nice guy and he made me fell at ease.Claires guy was really funny he was winding her up rotten as he knew she was scared. I couldn't believe I was actually going to go through with it!Once all of our camera men were ready and Rhys and that had packed their parachutes back into there bag they then collected us all and walked over to the plane where we waited for it to come in which seemed like forever to arrive. The plane arrived and oh my god… it was the worlds tiniest plane. I was going last so i hopped in first, followed by Claire with Loz sitting at the front jumping first. It was tiny and cramped in there we had to sit on our Jump Master laps!It took offand to be fair it was quite scary, it was really loud and very wobberly!!After about 5 minutes i looked out the window and it was really high so i thought it was about time - however when Rhys showed me his altitude watch it was only at 5000 feet and we had to go up another 10,000! JBy this point we had the camera man taking shots of us in the plane, Claires face was a picture she looked terrified!Loz was loving it, she had the biggest smile on her face!!Also at 10,00 feet we had to have oxygen, it was weird I didn't fell like I needed it!The next time Ryhs showed me his watch we were at 12,000 feet so he started to attach me to him.I was like oh my god im going to be jumping out of a plane!!!When the plane got to 15,00 feet Loz was the first to go, the shutter opened and off she went!!When Claire saw this she started to cry and say she didn't want to do it, infact she was screaming it.Her man started to move her to the front of the plane and she looked back at me as if to say Steph Help me!!I looked at her and just put my thumb it!At this point I was now feeling nervous, it was all Claire's fault for crying!Once they got Claire out, it was now my turn, we shuffled to the shutter, my cmarea man got out hanging of the plane and I got to the edge putting my feet under the plane. This bit was terrifying, I looked down and was like s**t!!After a couple of seconds Rhys was like 1,2,3 and we had gone.It was crazy, at first I couldn't breath it was horrible think it was just because I was scared and panicked. After I settled down, it was cool, the best feeling ever.My camera man was in front of me taking pictures and videos and I had to show him my hands which I had 'AVE IT' wriiten on them and of course the old finger dance was in there!!After about a minute freefall it was time to wave goodbye to my cameraman and pull the parachute. It was crazy as when you freefall you cannot hear a thing then as soon as the parachute goes up its crystal clear and you can have a conversation and hear perfectly fine whilst still in the air. This was amazing so chilled out, the views were amazing, we did turns and waved to Claire, It was cool.We were all on such a high after it we all wanted to do it again!!
We then headed back to the hostel and went to play crazy golf with the 2 Paddys, T and John and then to the pub with the rest of our bus who had jumped that day! Needless to say with all the adrenalin pumping we did not have to spend much to get drunk that night!! We had a Wkd night out, it was a great way to end our time in Taupo!! xxxxxx
