I arrived into La Paz after the hellishly long journey and was greeted by the most fantastic thunder storm - the roads on the way into La Paz were lined with a couple of inches of snow - it was all very dramatic! The taxi driver didn't know where the hostel was and clearly was unable to read a map - eventually I reached my hostel (it really took a long time between my driver's poor navigation skills and the fact that traffic in La Paz doesn't actually move - like literally doesn't move - the last leg of the massive journey was a lot longer than necessary). I was absolutely shattered so I just grabbed an early night! The next day I was still knackered and not really in the mood for doing much and spent most of the day just chilling. The following day I did a little sightseeing, had a look at the local markets and had a curry - a llama tika masala!
In La Paz there isn't a lot to do other than party - there is the death road which I wasn't mega keen on anyway although since leaving La Paz I reckon it might actually have been fun - ah well it gives me a reason to come back! It used to be possible to visit San Pedro prison which I would have really liked to have done but they are no longer letting people in - it has always been illegal and a bit dodgy but since the start of this year it has become impossible - I have heard a few different reasons for this - one is an escaped prisoner, the other is that on New year's eve somebody took a load of pics and put them on facebook! Anyway having met quite a lot of people who had tried loads and had not been successful I gave up on the idea. The only other thing I would have been interested in was a bit of hiking but as my time was getting short and I'd met some people who were going to Uyuni decided to go with them!
