I arrived into Potosi early in the morning - not feeling very refreshed, I think I'd overshot the optimum number of beers beforegetting on a night bus and I was still sore from the fall so didn't really sleep well! Potosi is a rural mining town - with a surprisingly fancy bus terminal!!
I had come to Potosi with the hopes of doing a mine tour - I'd heard very mixed reports but wanted to check it out myself! However arriving, feeling like crap I really didn't fancy crawling through a mine - but I decided since this is why I came I'd give it a go! The tour of the mines started with a visit to the market where you but coca leaves for the miners and dynamite for the miners/and to see an explosion! It was Carnival for the miners so it meant there would be no miners in the mines as they were all drinking! From the market we went to visit the refinery where we got to see the silver extraction process. From there we continued to the mines - they were as you would expect stuffy, cramped and by God was I glad for my helmet as I cracked my head quite a few times! I can't say I enjoyed my trip into the mines and it's a horrible place but it was an experience and I'm glad I went to see what it's like in there! Unfortunately I have no pictures from the mines or the trip. The group of people on the tour were really nice and we all had lunch together. After lunch a few of us went to visit a money museum which was pretty cool - it actually had a lot of other things including some cool mummies!
After the museum I went and caught a bus to Cochabamba - another overnight bus!!
