The move from Brazil to Argentina was easy - we jumped on a bus that took us to the migration offices - waited for us and then took us into the town! We trekked around town for a bit looking for accommodation and eventually found some! After getting settled we headed out for some dinner - my first Argentinian steak! It was awesome - possibly the best steak I'd ever had at the time; certainly up there (you must remember that I haven't eaten very good food in a long time). We had a couple of beers but headed back to the hostel relatively early as we had a full day at the falls the next day!
So I had very high expectations for the falls on the Argentinian side, everyone said it was better than the Brazilian side and I had been mightily impressed by the Brazilian side! We arrived in the morning and even the size of the park on the Argentinian side is much greater! There were a number of different paths we needed to walk so off we went! First stop the lower path - from here we got up close and personal with some of the falls and got to appreciate them from below, see their size, hear their roar and feel the spray. About halfway round we got on a boat trip, that takes you into the falls, we set off into the falls and were a bit disappointed when we thought they were turning back as we hadn't been very close and were barely wet - but they were just toying with us and then we headed into the falls - it was amazing - the force of the falls was immense - we were totally drenched! Getting that close, under such amazing waterfalls was just amazing; as Andrew Stone put it in a terrible pun (which he claims was an accident) it was well worth splashing out on the boat trip!!!
After the boat trip we walked along the upper path, here we saw many of the coati animals we had seen the previous day and also got to see the falls from a different perspective, we got to see the waterfalls we'd just been below from above - it's really hard to describe how immense and beautiful these waterfalls are - hopefully the pics will do it some justice (massive thank you to Isaac and Robert for the pics as I was still without my camera at this point) butI think that Iguazu is something that really has to be seen to be believed - especially so you can get a feel for how massive they are!
After that walk we headed back on the train to visit the Devil's throat - I thought that the falls couldn't get any more spectacular - I was wrong - the thunder, spray size of the falls at the devil's throat is unbelievable, it's just mesmerising to watch - it's impossible to describe the feeling standing over such an amazing waterfall!!
And that was the end of trip and we headed back to our hostel! Obviously comparisons between Iguazu and Vic falls are inevitable - and they are really different experiences and hard to compare and I certainly can't pick a favourite. Iguazu falls are certainly more beautiful and since I visited Vic falls when they were a tad dry Iguazu were more impressive - however the feeling of swimming over Vic falls and dangling over the edge is something I think I'd struggle to replicate anywhere - in summary they are both awesome and everyone should visit both in their lives!!
That night, contented with our Iguazu experience we went out for another steak - hard to believe but it was even better than the previous night - and a few beers and cocktails! My first brief taste of Argentina was very enjoyable and I'm looking forward to a lot more exploring and steak but for now it was time to return to Brazil for CARNAVAL!!!!!
