Day 10 - Thur 11 March
Checked into Limehouse Hostel and then walked around the centre of town and San Telmo area to get our bearings. Lloyd, Rich and I tried to find everyone else in their other hostel but couldn`t get hold of them so went out with an awesome Irish couple David and Mary, some strange woman called Kat and some other Irish guys called Declan (!) and Paul. Did what was expected given the company and got quite drunk until 4am, partying in some Indie bar with some underage Argentinian Goths...
Day 11 - Fri 12 March
The three of us strolled down to Boca and checked out Boca Juniors stadium. Next weekend is the number one sporting event to see before you die. Boca Juniors vs. River Plate. A normal ticket to a game is about 8 pounds, the hostels are charging 130. But we`re going to head down at 6am next Sunday and queue up, see what happens. Probably get stabbed for our trouble. Next we found the old painted houses of Boca, a really rough area but full of culture and ate while watching tango performances. In the evening Lloyd`s old boss was on holiday in BA so took us out for drinks and dinner with him and his boyfriend. The seediest, possibly gayest man I have ever met but a good laugh...
Day 12 - Sat 13 March
Headed out of BA to Tigre, a 40 minute train ride from the city. A really fun, chilled out place by the river with lots of markets and reasonable food...
Plan for the week:
Probably see a River Plate football game tomorrow
Take a spanish course for the week during the mornings and explore in the afternoons
Experience Paddy`s day on Wednesday with the disproportionately large Irish population in BA
Try to get to Boca v. River next weekend then head to Mendoza, Cordoba, possibly back to Iguazu before Salta and then Bolivia. Given the earthquakes I`ve moved off the idea of Chile. It seems quite expensive and no-one seems to rave about it. Spending the time in Argentina and learning Spanish seems a better plan
