Day 17-20
So Fraser Island was an amazing experience! We arrived at pippies beach house on Monday and had our safety briefing and got into our groups (we had the best group - not that I'm biased) and we were told to go and buy all our alcohol to take with us as the shop on the island was expensive! We weren't very prepared but Luckily we made friends with a couple from Essex who had a camper van so we managed to hitch rides to the shops as and when we pleased!
We then had to be up the following morning at 6am to load the 4x4's before we set off, So there were 4 4x4's with 8 people in each (we were group 4 so drove at the back). The cars had a good sound system in with an aux cable so we could play music as we cruised down the beach! Heaven! It was abit Cloudy on the first 2 days but still hot so we could enjoy swimming in the crystal clear lakes and pools!
The camp was ok and practical - not very glamorous but copeable there were loads of 2 man tents within one big shelter to sleep in at night and then a big cooking/ BBQ / seating area to cook and have drinks, the first night was BBQ which was cooked by group 1 and cleaned up by group 2 - once everyone starting drinking it was like a disco BBQ with drinking games, dancing on the benches - CRAZY but so much fun!! We also saw dingoes too which are like wild cute dogs that live on the island!
On day 2 we were all really hungover and our tour guide attempted to get everyone up at 6am - when nobody emerged from their tents he gave up and came back at 8am and we just had another day exploring! We (group 4) volunteered to cook tea on the second night (as that's surely better than cleaning up for 30+ people) and then found out it was spag Bol with garlic bread and salad! For 32 people! Jake was obviously in his element and we all just left him to it and drank vodka whilst eating the garlic bread and then all took abit of credit for jakes amazing cooking! Haha!
We literally had no signal or wifi on the island and with a Liverpool fan, untied fan, Tottenham fan and a Celtic fan with each team playing in the champions league whilst we were there everyone was desperate to explore and find some 3G to find out the scores! Which we eventually did and most of us were happy (bar the Celtic fan obviously as they got beat 3 nil by Bayern)
The jeeps were scary to drive through the sand dunes and on the sand itself as they slid and bounced everywhere! On the last day I managed to pluck up the courage to have a go and actually was ok at it!! (I'll post a pic) but we mainly left the driving to the boys while the girls were chief DJ's! We all had like radios/walkie talkies in each car so we could communicate with each car whilst driving which was funny as some people should not of been driving and got loads of crap from the other cars!
Like us, Most of the people in our group are heading to New Zealand next so we are hoping to have a reunion there which will be nice!
Anyway we are back at the hostel now and glad to be back in a comfy bed! We get picked up tomorrow at 7pm (which is a pain having to wait around seen as check out from the room is 10am) and we have an overnight bus to where we get on our boat for 3 days sailing round the whitsunday islands which should be lovely!!
We have treated ourselves to a rotisserie hot chicken for tea tonight as we have been living on bread (besides tea times) while camping so like toast for breakfast, butties/wraps for lunch even burgers in a bun on the first night! so we are breaded out!!
From tomorrow we won't have wifi / signal again until we are off the boat on Monday afternoon so we arnt ignoring you if you message us and we don't reply until then!
Lots of love and hugs xxxxx
