Went to 2 museums today - War Remnants museum - all about the attrocities in the War - shocking. Makes you wonder what you're capable of - human beings can be so barbaric to one another and also, strangely enjoy other's suffering - quite incomprehensible! Armies are evil places when they corrupt people like that.
Also went to Reunification Palace - was a nice contrast to the war museum, and I like being nosy and looking round other people's homes, so I enjoyed that. Was like being in an Austin Powers movie - 60's French architecture mixed with Vietnemese - which turned out bizarrely well!
Also - got 3 shirts and one skirt tailored (in preparation for my return to the real world - and my wonderful 9 til 5) Spent ages going round different places and in the end decided to buy my material at one place and have it tailored in another. They took so many measurements!! Kind of filled me with comfort, because I guess the whole point of tailoring is that it's the right shape for you. The tailors didn't speak any English, which amused me greatly - fortunately a nice man from the shop downstairs came up to translate for me - he was brilliant.
My one word in Vietnemese is coming in very useful ("thank you" - I always learn "thank you" Cam Ong in Vietnemese - spelt differently though. it seems to work wonders in every country!) Everyone has been delighted when I've used it! (I hope I'm saying the right words!) Vietnemese pronounciations are quite difficult - abrupt and the pitch is very important. Anyway - i'm trying.
Off to Mekong Delta for 3 days tomorrow - am looking forward to that - will be doing some cycling too - keeping my fingers crossed for minimal injuries.
