So from Vegas we headed up to Utah and into Zion National Park. Once again the scenery was fantastic and it was really hot. We arrived at our campsite, picked a good, flat pitch and promptly put up our tent, on the slopiest part of the pitch. I would have 2 nights waking up pressed against the canvas of our modest tent!! We arrived quite late in the afternoon so there qwasnt really much to do so we had a look round the town and looked for something to do the next day. We found a shop that hired out canyoning gear so we could walkm up the Narrows, it was pretty cheap and we really wanted to see the Narrows so we decided we'd do0m that on our only full day in Zion. That night we waited for half an hour to get a seat in an empty restaurant, (why??) and ate a mediocre meal, the highlight being the waiter thinking by rare kel meant that she wanted her steak cooked well done and little boot shaped glesses for my beer. Later that night we went into a bar to have a couple of drinks before we went to bed only to be told that in Utah you couldnt order a drink unless you were eating at the same time. As we'd just eaten and werent particularly hungry we did the smart thing and ordered some more food just to get some drinks. Happy in the knowledge that we'd beat the system (not really of course, we were just losers who really wanted a drink!!) we headed off to our slopy pitch and got some rest before the hike up the narrows. We got up and we were all rearing to go to so we collected our gear and set off to the Narrows. It was a 45 minute drive then a 1 mile hike to the entrance to the Narrows. The Narrows is basically a river tghat runs in a gorge, but there are no paths, just a river in between 2 sheer cliff faces so you actually walk up the river. We got special boots and a big stick to help us in our quest. We decided we'd go about 3 1/2 miles up the canyon to the end of a stretch called "Wall Street" where the Narrows are at their narrowest. We battled through hidden dips in the river, rapids, rocks and head heigh water we had to swim through but it was well worth it as the scenery was spectacular. We passed numerous waterfalls and hanging gardens, this time with a camera to take photos!! The whole thing took about 7 hours and we were pretty tired once we'd done it. We got back, fired up the BBQ and settled down to some soup, ravioli and whisky by a fire, no bears to worry about here!! This was the end of our time in zion, and utah where you cvan only drink if you eat. Tomorrow we wopuld be heading to the Grand Canyon!!!!!!!
