Sorry its been so long guys!! Cant believe I havent finished America yet! Well, after a short and uneventful stay in palm springs (seeing a roadrunner bird that was too fast for kel hence no photo and a really horrible steak was all there was to report) we arrived in San Diego. Once there we were a little lost for about 2 hours, going round the one way system when we eventually decided the smart thing to do would be to buy a map, so we eventually found our way to the hostel, very happy to see that it was only about 200 yards from the beach.
As we arrived a little late we missed the weekly excursion to tijuana which we were a bit gutted about as we really wanted to go into mexico when we were so close, so instead we put on our flip flops and had a wander around ocean beach. We went out for a few drinks that night, or at least we tried to. Apparantly a passport wasnt a good enough form of ID for one of the bars. I asked the bouncer why it was possible to get into his country with my passport but not his bar and his response was "Sorry, thats how it works here." So we went next door instead where the most elite form of ID was sufficient for their less anal bouncers.
Next day we decided that it was beach weather so we spent the day down at the beach. It wasnt really that hot, only about 24 degree, so, as i was pretty brown already and had never had sunburn i decided not to use suntan lotion, which in hindsight was a little bit of an error. As i mentioned, I'd never had sunburn and always liked to poke fun at those unfortunate to turn into a lobster when the sun hit them, however, having felt the discomfort first hand i'll never again slap the back of a sunburnt person. It really did ruin my time in San Diego!! More drinks that night and some very rude tramps who didnt even say thanks when Kel (drunk) gave them $5, so she ordered them back over and made them at least introduce themselves to us after she was kind enough to buy their drug hit for the night. Bless her.
We woke up the following morning to find a parking ticket on our car window, because we were "partially in a red zone", which translated to about a foot of our car was in the red zone. So we promptly paid and set off for sea world in not the best of moods courtesy of the parking ticket and some nasty sunburn. We Arrived at sea world and paid our expensive entrance fee expecting to be wowed......It didnt happen. Everything was over priced, the food was burgers or nothing and the queues were too long. We decided that thr only thing to do was to see Shamu. The killer whale show. We were sat there waiting for the show to start when out comes the presenter, great we thought. But no. She didnt want to start the show, she wanted all members of the american or allied military, past or present to stand up so we could all applaude them for "Protecting America's freedom." I think that me and kel were the only people who didnt clap as we looked perplexed at each other wondering when exactly americas freedom was under threat. Anyway, enough ranting, we were then subjected to a short propaganda film before the show started. The show was really good but all of the trash we were subjrcted to at the beggining left a sour taste in our mouth and we left sea world pretty dissapointed. That night we went to meet kels friend Sarah and had a really good night and a lot of fun (drinking $3 margaritas probably helped!!)
Next day was our last full day so we headed over to Coronado island for the day which was really nice, except I couldnt sunbathe because of the sunburn but kel was happy to take photos of the hotel where a Marilyn Monroe film was shot, really sorry Guys, I dont know what it was called but im sure all the Girls will know!! That night we ended up where we did most nights in San Diego, down at the beach next to a fire with a few beers!!
All in all we were pretty lazy in San Diego but we did have a really good time, despite the efforts of sea world and sunburn!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
