We got up and met Paul at the car hire and got a little car for the week. Stu volunteered to do the driving through the city. No thank you! You can't make right hand turns in front of tram lines. You have to pull over to the left and basically wait until the lights turn red for you to turn right. Hook turns! Scary!!
After a quick tour round the city to get to the hotel we were finally on the way! Stu did the driving out of the city to Torquay. We stopped off at Torquay for a quick look at the first sight of the coast!
Paul took over the driving, he also received a speeding fine when he returned home!! Whoops! We followed the coast line which was beautiful no matter where we were! Whatever I say will not do it any justice at all!
We stopped off at Bells Beach for a quick walk along the beach front, another beautiful place!
There was so many look outs along the way it was hard to keep track! I tried my best to mark each spot on the map Paul had! I think I did OK without a GPS!
We stopped off at Anglesea, which had a great lookout point across the ocean, which was a gorgeous crystal blue colour! I can't believe how blue the ocean was.
The road journey was pretty impressive, the way it curved rose and fell over the hills. Very picturesque!
Being the co-pilot of the trip and map reader I decided that we should stop off at Spilt Point lighthouse. We had a short walk up to the lighthouse, I'm very jealous it has an amazing view of a beautiful coast line! It has been an unmanned lighthouse since 1919 before it opened up to the public in 2005. It was a little bit pricey to go up, so we decided to pass! But there was a short walk to the lookout which we did. The views....!
Our next destination was lunch! The best thing about the Great Ocean Road was the fact the next town/lookout was only a max of 10 - 20 minutes away. We stopped off at Lorne for some lunch. Had another walk to the beach again! Beaches everywhere here!
We have been told that between Lorne to Apollo Bay there are koalas! We all were trying to keep our eye out, and finally I saw one! I think I scared Stu half to death and made he pull over. I took Stu and Jackie to try and find said koala, I actually found several koalas!!! It was amazing! They were a little far away, but I did get some photos. I took Paul too find the koala. Stu and Jackie stayed with the car, apparently there was a koala right above the car that Paul couldn't spot!! They were all boring and sleeping!!
It was getting a bit late and we headed onto Apollo Bay. Stu was driving behind a giant camper van, it suddenly broke and pulled over into a lay-buy, we were wondering why and then we suddenly saw a echidna cross the road!!!! We were all pretty stoked seeing one! Never thought I'd see one in the wild! I thought I was lucky enough to see a koala let along and echidna!! Managed to get a picture, luckily my camera was on!
We arrived at our hotel room, which was HUGE! The receptionist said that every where shut early, 8 pm, for dinner! So we headed out early to get some dinner before it shut! We went to the pub down the road, and went for a after dinner walk
