We got up and headed for some breakfast down the road, before we checked out and headed on our way. The receptionist mentioned another good spot to see koalas so we decided to head down that route. It was en route to Cape Otway Lightstation, I think everyone got tipped off on this and everyone was out parked up looking at the several koalas that were out and about! It was really good!!! Can't believe how many we have seen!
Our next stop was the beginning of the most famous part of the Great Ocean Road, we arrived at the Gibson Steps. One lonely rock sitting in the sea, I don't know how to describe it really!! But it was beautiful!
Finally I decided to do the driving, my first part lasted about 30 seconds before the next lookout! I think this will be the theme for the rest of the journey! We finally arrived at the famous The Twelve Apostles! We had a small walk to the boardwalk of the lookout. We had an enjoyable hour, soaking it all in! Originally they were called the Sow and Piglets until they were renamed to The Apostles for tourism purposes, then eventually it became the Twelve Apostles, even though there is only nine stacks. In 2005 on stack collapsed so there was only eight stacks left!
It was literally the most amazing thing I have ever seen! I really can't describe or explain how amazing it was!
We decided to head on to the next location, Loch Ard Gorge. Another beautiful location! The gorge was named after the clipper ship Loch Ard ran around on nearby Muttonbird Island on the 1st June 1878. Only two people survived sadly, Tom Pearce only 15 years old and Eva Carmichael 17 years old. According to memorials at the site Tom washed ashore and then heard Eva's shouting for help. So he went back into the water to save her. It took him an hour apparently to swim back to shore with Eva. Very brave. Stu wanted to go for a swim, but I told him it wouldn't be wise as the currents are strong, and if Tom took an hour to drag Eva back to shore, I don't fancy dragging a dead weight like Stu back to shore!!
I think this was my favourite location out of them all!!
Our next scenic location was London Bridge, but the bridge part isn't there any more! It was a double span natural bridge, until it collapsed on the 15th January 1990 leaving two tourists stranded. Luckily no one was hurt! They had to be rescued by helicopter!
We finally we on the road to Warranambool, it is a pretty big town, well the biggest we have come across!!! We had a stroll to the beach before dinner and had a drink along the ocean front. We headed into town for some dinner, good old urban spoon to the rescue!
Had an enjoyable dinner before we headed back to the hotel.
