We had our city tour this morning, we got picked up by our driver who was dropping us off with our tour guide! Well he attempted to drop us off but got confused/lost so we wasted about 45 minutes running around in the heat and I was pretty pissed off!
We finally arrived at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, but I had to go and grab an abaya to over my head. It was black and extremely warm! I was even more annoyed! The mosque itself was very impressive!
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was initiated by the late president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure which unites the cultural diversity of Islamic world, the historical and modern values of architecture and art. His final resting place is located on the grounds beside the same mosque. The mosque was constructed from 1996 to 2007. It is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the eighth largest mosque in the world.
It was white with gold trimmings and elegant carpets and marble floors. It was beautiful. It was pretty strict inside you can't touch another man/women a lot of people were being told off for doing this! We enjoyed being inside the mosque as it was air conditioned! On the back wall they had all the 100 names of Allah (God) and had some amazing chandeliers hanging from the ceiling decorated with some amazing gems!
I was happy when I could take off the abaya and get back into the air conditioned bus. We headed off for our tour which wasn't much of a tour to be honest, but we did see the new palace being built. as the old palace isn't quite big enough! We did get a great view of Abu Dhabi from across the bay and it was pretty impressive.
We headed back to the hotel shortly after getting some lunch and we decided to sit around by the pool for the rest of the afternoon.
We were disturbed by kids coming in and making a hell of a noise so we deiced to head back to room and got washed and dressed ready for dinner at the Italian again before heading to bed ready for our flight tomorrow.
