Sunday 1st July
After a rough night's sleep the alarm went off, not the most pleasant thing in the world at 4:30am!
We packed up and waited for the taxi to take us to the travel office; we arrived in good time and waited for someone to tell us where to go. Before long we were hustled onto a waiting bus and were given water and a bread roll for breakfast to go along with the rest of our 7-Eleven breakfast!
We both pretty much slept all the way to the boat, there was a mad rush of people pushing and shoving to get tickets and their stickers for bags etc, it was just manic!
We managed to get on board and settle in for the ride. The boat was going via Koh Tao, where we had to get off onto a new boat for some reason. This was more effort than it was worth. There is no politeness etiquette here, and that's from the travellers/holiday makers!
We finally arrived in Koh Phangan, and jumped onto a tuk-tuk to take us to Haad Rin beach. We found our hostel and were welcomed warmly into our 22 bed dorm! It's not that big a room, with only two bathrooms to share between us all!
It was quite busy in Haad Rin, with the roads being small, cars, motos and people fought for their fair share to use!
We found some food and chilled out, we were going to go to the pool party at another guesthouse, but we passed out and slept until the morning!
Our hostel is pretty much the main party hub of the town; the music never turns off until maybe 1 - 3am every night! My headphones and iPod have come in use a lot!
Monday 2nd July
We woke up and joined a boat tour of the island. It was quite nice; we did a bit of swimming and snorkelling around the island and went to bottle beach for the afternoon, which was gorgeous!
When we returned to the hostel the town was even busier, if that was even possible. Our room now was completely full!
Tonight we decided to go out; we headed to the same guesthouse that did the pool party yesterday as the drinks were a bit cheaper than where we were. We found a tuk-tuk that did free lifts and headed over! It was pretty busy when we arrived, about 10pm, we got a few drinks and met a few people and got chatting.
I know it is pretty standard for people doing stupid things when they are drunk, but I don't think pools and alcohol are a good mix. Some people were doing some ridiculous things, like back flipping into the pool. I'm surprised there were no head injuries.
We decided to check out the jungle party, so we found a tuk-tuk and headed over into the jungle, quite literally. There was a steep charge to get in, which we couldn't afford due to having to get a ride back. With a tip from some other travellers we managed to sneak in without paying (I know, I know! But £10 to get in is stupid!!). To sneak in we had to do a mini trek into the jungle to bypass the 'door guards' and over a mini stream, which I nearly fell in due to the alcohol I am guessing!
We had a good boogie and party, it was packed out! We decided to leave and jumped into a tuk-tuk going back. We got dropped off and had to help Stu walk home. He also managed to break his flip flop, which I didn't think was possible!
On the way back we bumped into Joe, one of the guys we met in Halong Bay and in Vang Vieng! We had a good talk before having to drag Stu back home and forcing him into bed literally. Luckily a few of the guys in the room helped me convince Stu it was a good idea to sleep and not to drink anymore!
Tuesday 3rd July
We woke up after midday, luckily the air con in the room is cold enough to sleep, and however, every time you walk outside it feels like a sauna!
Today was the full moon party; we pretty much chilled all day and went to the pool down the road. We had some dinner with some other girls from our hostel before heading back and slowly getting washed and dressed ready.
We have been advised to not drink until midnight if you want to last till the morning! We took this advice after Stu's incident last night! However some people were already drunk and it was only 9pm! The tradition here is to get yourself all dolled up with UV paint and some brightly coloured clothes! We got ourselves painted up and hung around the hostel until around 11:30 - Midnight before bumping into some Aussies we met on the boat tour the other day; we headed down to the beach with them. We somehow managed to get a bucket each off them without paying. To be honest they all worked in the mines around Perth so were making a mint anyway!
We had another surreal moment when we bumped in Jord and G the two Dutch guys we were on the gibbon experience with! It was amazing how we managed to bumped into each other considering the sheer amount of people on the beach tonight! We had a great time dancing and having a laugh! We only had two buckets each and had spread them apart so we didn't end up like others on the beach; passed out!!
It was about 6am, when we both decided we had enough! We went home without stopping off to have two corn on the cobs for me!
The hostel was still blaring out music when we came home, we both passed out from exhaustion!
Wednesday 4th July
Our hostel keeps the party going until midday, the music was on really loud, and our room was right night to the bar as well!
After the party finished everyone goes to the after party at the back garden. I decided I couldn't be arsed and carried on sleeping! Stu went off with one of the guys from Singapore, Jake.
When Stu arrived back we pretty much did nothing and recovered from the previous night antics, some people were still going! I don't know how it is possible. Luckily the hostel was quiet for the rest of the day.
I downloaded some books to read and stayed in the air con room, where my body had decided it was on the brink of failure. Too much partying…
Thursday 5th July
We were woken by every packing their bags and leaving, the hostel, like everyone on the island had a 5 minimal stay over full moon, and so we had one more night to go. The hostel became a ghost town as did the rest of the town in the afternoon.
We headed over to try and book a boat out of the island, but everything was booked up, so we have no choice and to stay another night! We also booked up our diving courses with Crystal on Koh Tao and they had got all our boat tickets arrange for us and I was excited!
Friday 6th July
There is not really much to report today! I spent most of the day in bed ill, last night I was so cold I slept outside in the heat and still had a jumper and a blanket on! This is not good!
We hung out with the remaining guys and girls in the room before having to change rooms due to the air con breaking and getting ready to leave for tomorrow.
