Friday 4th - Tuesday 8th December 2015
I was checking out all the snowfall that was coming down in BC especially in Whistler, about 2 meters in about 4 days, and Liz told me I had to go as I was on the fence about going. Lea my old supervisor said she'll give me a written warning if I didn't go! She also said what kind of job let you do these amazing trips last minute?! No one! So I got into work still thinking about it, and Liz told me I had to go buy bus tickets as soon as I got to the office...So thats what I did! I brought myself bus tickets that day to leave at 8 pm that day! It was a long overnight bus journey to Vancouver as the bus was full, but made it in one piece...my phone almost didn't though! I stupidly dropped it down the side in between the window and air vent! The police then came on board thinking Dave was someone they were searching for! I couldn't help but laugh a lot!
Got onto out bus to Whistler and met up with Ash!! SO EXCITING! It was snowing when we started getting up the mountain. We were staying right in the middle of Whistler which was awesome! I couldn't wait for the day to start!!
The first day the mountain had 20 cm of fresh snow! YEWWW!! The snow here is so different to Sunshine. Its a wetter snow so by the end of the day my legs were killing me! But it was worth every minute of fresh pow pow!! It was pretty busy as it was Sunday but, the fresh snow was worth standing in the queues for!
On the Monday they had another 20 cm of fresh snow! Today we were a little more adventurous and headed into some 'temporarily closed areas', basically to keep beginners out! Man the snow came right up to my knees and it was glorious! I had a moment where I was enjoying my line and I suddenly took of into the air and saw below me I was flying over a creek! So I made sure I fell with my board stopping me for falling into the creek. Dave thought I just fell over in some pow until he saw what I flew over! That was the highlight of my trip by far!
The bus ride back to Banff wasn't that bad...we rolled into Banff about 4 am on Wednesday, after leaving Whistler on Tuesday morning! The worse part was having to get up to go to work for 7:30 am...that was painful! But totally worth every second and penny!!!
So I totally went to my first road trip to a ski hill that I thought I'll never get to go!! I totally glad I went! Thanks to Liz for being awesome and Lea giving me a kick up the butt! Slowly I am getting over my travel anxiety of traveling by myself (kind of) and taking the plunge!
