So on monday 28th November 2011 i set off again on the last part of my trip. Mum and dad dropped me and lou off at the airport were we got sorted, said our goodbyes and then headed to the duty free area. We went and got some food straight away as we were both hungry. I had £1.30 left in change so threw it in the gambler...and won. i made that sad bit of shrapnel into a crisp £10 note!! After that we went to our gate and waited to board. It was nice to have some to fly with this time, even tho it was only part of the way for both of us. We sat down and then suddenly realised what mistake we had made. we had chosen seats...next to the bassanet area meaning for the next 7hours we had not 1 but 2 screaming kids next to us! Anyway, when we got to dubai we grabbed a drink, said our goodbyes (for a few weeks anyway) and went to our gates. (if im not mistake i think lou's flight was delayed quite abit??) I boarded the plane to perth and when we set off realised that not only did i have a window seat (cracking) but that the 2 seats next to me were free too!! without a mintues spared i lifted up the arm-rest and spread out!! i think i was abit premature here as 5mins later the stewardess came ove saying she was really sorry but someones screen didnt work further up the flight and he was to be seated on the end seat. i didnt mind at all as there was still space, and he was very appologetic saying i could still sprawl out if i wanted. the flight was fairly standard with a bit of turbulence. i slept on and off for most of it but towards the end i started speaking to the guy next to me. turns out hes from manchester, but moved to perth 9months ago with his new wife. he gave me his number saying if i needed anything or wanted any tips on what to do then to ring him. geoff...what a guy!!
I landed at around 2am wednesday morning. i jumped in a taxi to the hostel (which cost a fortune due to the time) and checked in. id made the mistake of checking in on wednesday, forgetting that i couldnt check in till after 12midday!! i had booked a single room just for 2nights to sort myself out but as id messsed up, i just checked into a 4bed dorm instead, saving alot of money!! (good job it was a 24hr reception!!) i wasnt tiered at this point so i went to the tv room and watched the build up of the carling cup quatre finals, before starting to drift off. the next day i was up fairly early as one of the lads in the room gets up at 4am for work and the other at 6 am for work so i was fairly awake then. i went downstairs for some breakfast (which is free, toast cereals and tea/coffee - no milk tho, tahts $2 a pop!) and then head back upstairs. i spent all day in bed dozing on and off trying to catch up on sleep, apart from at half12 when i wnet downstairs for a sausage butty (between 12-1 on weekdays they give them out for free!!). I spent the rest of the day and night in bed.
Thursday i got up early again, 630-7ish and went for my free breaky before heading back upstairs. i rested for an hour then got ready and went to the travel agents to see my options of getting to sydney, whether it be fly, coach or travel to cairns and down the east coast. i planned them all and decided the best bet was to fly to sydney and catch up with some old friends beofre lou arrives. i decided the east coast was going to cost a small fortune for only 19days, and think it best to leave that for another time when have more time! after that i went back to the hostel for my free sausgae butty (well, butty's, i had 3! - ive got to save money were i can!!) and then headed back up to my room ... to sleep!! i felt bad at first being in bed but the jetlag was hitting me hard. I think it was the fact that id been up all day monday and then flew at 8pm at night, and only got on and off sleep on the second part of my journey!
Friday i awoke early as normal for breakfast and then got ready and ventured into the city. i walked around the city center and then down to the habour. Its a nice area, but i prefere sydney as theres abit more going on. When i was in the travel agents on thurs id asked what there was to do and she said apart form spending money on day trips, there was the beaches and the kings garden (like the botanical garden in sydney) so not alot to do. i had some lunch and then went back to the travel agents and booked my flight to sydney for monday morning. After that i could feel myself burning (its in the low to mid 30's' at the mo, even got to 37 last week!) so i headed back to the hostel. i got back, drank some water and had a kip. that night the hostel had a bbq, $10 all u can eat and u get a drinks token. i was told it started at 7 so at 705 i headed down. i got there to the last steak and 2 sausages!! turns out it was 6 it started!! i didnt mind as the steak, sausages, bread rolls and salad was suffice, but was dissapointed i missed out on the chicken and burgers. as i felt hard done by i went to the bar and ordered the most expensive drink, a can of burbon and coke ($8.50) ha! I then went for a walk down the road. there is a huge tv screen infront of a lawn with bean bags on it and at nights they play movies or documentaries which is pretty cool. as i got there they were just about to start a doc on extreme rock climbing so i watched that for a while. when i gt back to the hostel my 2 (irish) roommates and there friends were crammed into out room getting ready to go out. the invited me out but i didnt particulary feel like it and declined. however, in their typical irish was i got pushed into getting ready to go out. we were around the hostel for ages after that so i decided to head back to the room!! i fell asleep at around midnight, and was awoken at 230am when they returned with a girl, talking and laughing. ive been up since then, its now 730am and i thinks it going to be a looooong day!!!
