My European Escapades
Yesterday morning we meet Ronin (one of our two Galway friends) in Eyre Square for breakfast and goodbyes. Then we took a bus to Doolin, which brought us through the Burren and Lisdoonvarna - both beautiful towns. Once we arrived and checked into our hostel in Doolin, Karley and I tried to walk the 4 miles back to Lisdoonvarna (the location of the nearest pharmacy) and made it just in time to catch our bus out to the Cliffs of Moher (and so really just took a long walk, never getting to the pharmacy). It was rainy and windy up there and so we didn't stay for long. We hoped to walk all the way out on the cliffs like you see in this picture, but it was much to slippery to risk, so we only went a little past the sign that says "don't go past here" (a giant joke because there is a huge dirt path right next to it where everyone keeps walking), and did the traditional crazy-American thing ... which is to crawl on your belly to the edge on a flat spot and stick your arms over the edge. A give-Grandma-a-hear-attack-if-she-was-watching kind of thing, but we had fun. Since it rained, we all napped during the afternoon, then spent a good 5 hours in the local pub MacDearmott's eating dinner (roast duck for 7 Euro!!!) and listening to that night's local Irish band play music. We met a guy from Pennslyvannia who is going to study in Galway, and he may come to visit us in Austria later this semester. In a little while we'll catch a long bus down to Killarney, and tomorrow will meet up our boys from Knock in Cork for two days. Our travel plans may change a little because Shirlea has mislocated her bus pass, but hopefully we will find it before we have to leave.
