WOW!! how great was today?!?! We set off for Werribee Open Range Zoo with neither of us having been there before - it was so cool being able to experience these things together as a family.
We met up with my cousin Tanya - who I have not seen in about 8 years. All I can say, is that she has not changed a bit. Still as gorgeous as ever - inside and out.
This was the first time Saffron had ever met Tanya, and she kept asking me what she looked like.. I hate trying to describe people at the best of times, so telling Saffron that Tanya had dark hair probably wasn't the best thing I could have done. Any lady (and I mean ANY lady with dark hair - it didn't matter about the colour of their skin - haha) I was being asked "is that Tanya?"
What an amazing zoo!!!! It has an atmosphere like no other zoo I have been to. Tanya said that if I was impressed with Werribee, wait till we see Melbourne Zoo!!! That will be on our next trip to Melbourne (hopefully then, we'll be able to spend more time just in Melbourne)
The safari bus tour was interesting albeit dusty. You could get really good photos of the animals and not having windows on the train made the "up close and personal sensation" all the more real.
Just wandering around the Zoo was quite an experience. Scattered throughout and along the paths were speakers playing animal sounds and tribal noises from the region that the animals were from.
It felt quite surreal at times - but well worth the visit.
It was sad to say goodbye to Tanya at the end, but our day wasn't over yet.
We got back to our cabin around 3pm and then Bruno and Kathleen came over for a quick visit. Once again, it was fabulous to catch up with familly I haven't seen in a long time.
To finish our night off, it was a relaxing spa and glass of wine before collapsing into bed. WE were all exhausted but happy......
