After a very restless doze, I was woken by Selwin as he headed for the shower. The final leg of our trip was about to begin. We left Saffron sleeping for as long as we could and we didn't even bother getting her dressed this time.
By 0100hrs, we were on the road heading for home. It was an easy drive and uneventful. We only made 2 stops. The first was at Tailem Bend for fuel, drink and toliet break. This was the first time that Saffron woke since leaving Horsham. Once she was fed, watered and tolietted, she promptly went back to sleep. I was so jealous of her.
We passed Murray Bridge around 0420hrs, so we just waved at Nan and Pop - figured it was a touch early to drop in for a cuppa.....
Driving through Adelaide at that hour was a dream. We got all the lights and no hold ups. Our next stop was Caltex Paralowie for a coffee at 0515hrs. It took longer to get our coffees there than it did to do the toliet run at Tailem Bend.
The end was in sight, but it felt like this was the longest part of the journey. Saffron was still sleeping, so we knew it was going to be an extremely long day for us when we got home.
It was glorious watching the sun rise as we drove through the Hummocks. It felt like "rush hour" as we passed Paskeville - well, 8 cars in total ..... for Paskeville, that's busy...... LOL
As we headed on the final stretch into Moonta, Saffron woke. It was barely 0745hrs and Saffron's first words were "are we home?" To which we joyfully replied YES.
We had an amazing holiday and the time we spent together as a family is something we cannot replicate. Every hour of every day was funny, interesting and entertaining. There are no words that truly describe how much I have treasured this time together.
Bring on the next adventure.......................
