I missed day one because I was coughing my guts up and vomiting consistently.. I woke up fine the next morning and was eager to get to my placement, Earth Saviors. We get there around 9:30 and I was pretty nervous to teach a class of 30 who didn't speak any English and as I was sick I missed the Hindi lesson the day earlier and spoke no Hindi! I was teaching in a class with maddie and Jack, they kind of took the lead because they went there the day before. At the end of the day I became more comfortable and learnt that it wasn't as hard as I originally thought it would be. By about day two or three I had made a little mate. little Vickus who pronounced his own name "Because".
The class was only very young, so we were teaching them very basic stuff such as " i'm a little teapot" and the ABC's. On week two of the placement, I was moved to a different age group/ class and found myself teaching grade 5's.
Farewell "Because".
I found teaching the older kids slightly easier, although the work was harder, some of the children could speak English and could hold a conversation which made it feel a lot easier. It was quite repetitive for the week but the kids sucked in our every word and were learning English and maths thanks to us!
On the last day we were made feel very appreciated by the staff and children giving us scarves, photos and books.
Both us aussies and the students were crying as we said our farewells and I gave "Because" one last hug.
It was a fantastic experience and the earth saviors foundation made us feel very welcome!
