We had dinner on Friday evening, continental again so the closest thing I have got to a roast dinner in three and a half months, yum, and off to bed. Saturday morning and we were up early to do rubbish day. There is a major waste issue in Nepal where by there is only a limited infrastructure set up for disposal and recycling and there is very little education surrounding it. Things are starting to change and children in particular are starting to take an interest. In Bandipur, each Saturday morning the children go around the village area and collect rubbish in sacks to dispose of properly. At least it is something.
Anyway, Saturday morning was very misty and cold and was also drizzling so having got up for the children they then didn't show! They had the better idea to be honest! Since we were up and the weather was miserable we decided to do our laundry anyway. This is hand washing and scrubbing with a brush, even my jeans. Hard work! We finished eventually and hung them up around to dry and then headed for breakfast.
After breakfast, we decided to make the most of our day off and watch a film so we settled down to watch the curious case of Benjamin Button. About half way through we stopped for lunch and by then the weather had started to improve. By the time we finished lunch the sun was out and warm so we decided to revert to the original plan of walking up the hill next to the village.
Bandipur is 1000m above see level and is often in the clouds. The hill goes up a further few hundred metres and we were treated to a fabulous view of the village, the surrounding hills and then the Himalayas as a beautiful backdrop. Stunning. I can't get over how beautiful the mountains are and like nothing I have ever seen before. We enjoyed the sun on top of the hill for a while before heading back down to finish the film. Then dinner and bed.
Sunday and back to children duties. We have been teaching the children, among other things the months and I have learnt some stuff too like the new month octopus and also that Wednesday follows February! It doesn't always go to plan! We had a good day with the children but for some reason Feddie and I both felt grumpy. This ended up meaning that we bought some rum and treated ourselves to rum and coke on Sunday night. It did make me feel better :-)
Monday and another normal day. We started to teach second grade the vegetables so I bought one of each type from the Market to help. It actually went quite well and we will do this for a few days to help them remember. The last few days the weather has changed and is a bit misty in the morning but then clears to be a beautiful afternoon so Monday lunch time we walked back up the hill and got some more stunning views. I now have many pictures of mountains and I haven't even done my trek yet! We then had the excitement of hair wash day followed by dinner.
Tuesday and the usual routine. I am now sat enjoying the sunshine on my lunch break before heading to the challenge of fourth grade. I only have a few teaching days left now as I leave for my trek on Friday. Time seems to be flying as well as it is just over two weeks and I will be home.
