People who know me well and some who don't know me so well will know that I have a very low tolerance threshold for stupidity. I'd just like to recount a tale of abject stupidity that I was privy to on Friday morning, it involved the fearless DJ Q.
I came down with the flu on Thursday night so I opted out of Friday morning's early hike (which from all accounts involved some awesome scrambling :(). Being sick I wouldn't have had much fun out in the heat. Apparently some others also opted out for various reasons.
Here is the transcript as I recall, involving Elaine and DJ Q. Obliviously DJ Q's name is edited to protect the not so innocent.
DJ Q [in heavy Dutch accent]: "Fock.......fock......fock......go away flies" (apparently this was accompanied by dance moves that Peter Garret would be proud of)
Elaine: "XXXXX, have you got mosquito repellent on?"
DJ Q [in heavy Dutch accent]: "No......Fock off flies"
Elaine: "Here you go put some on."
DJ Q [in heavy Dutch accent]: "No, I don't like it. It smells."
Elaine: "Yes, but it will stop you getting bitten".
DJ Q [in heavy Dutch accent]:"No I don't like it........fock......fock....go away flies."
At this point Elaine gives up and wanders off and I'm treated to another couple of minutes of DJ Q swearing at the mosquitoes and apparently dancing around. Right at the point I was about to emerge from my tent and give him something to winge about (as I was tired sick and cranky) he decided that he would take his tent down. As the tent was the only other means of protection from mossies at the camp ground other than aeroguard this was another brilliant move on his part! So he took his tent down and spent the next three hours at the campsite getting eaten but mossies due to lack of protection. At least he got quieter about it so I could sleep.
Needless to say he looked as if he had chicken pox the next day. If any of those mossie bites prove fatal I will be nominating him for a Darwin award. As the Source say's - Harsh but fair.
On the upside we relocated to Canyonlands National Park in the afternoon. I was feeling better so got in a bit of walking and scrambling around the amazing rock formations. The other cool this was that we camped out in a large cave!
