It was a perfect day for our run from Newburgh to Kingston, it was also the shortest run we have done so far on our trip. We left the dock at 7:10, to head to the fuel dock at Newburgh Yacht club less than one mile north of us. We did not need fuel, but their prices are cheaper than anyone around, sowe decided to top off.
What should have been an easy time off the dock, turned out not be so easy. Both the wind and the tide were pushing us off the dock, so once we untied we should have just floated clear of the dock. What I did not realize was the water coming under the dock and the wave attenuator under the dock, was causing a whirlpool pushing us back to the dock. Remember the steel brackets I mentioned in yesterday's post, One of them decided it wanted to taste of our boat, and took a nice bite out of the back corner of our boat. I did not know this until we docked in Kingston.
The fuel dock at Newburgh Yacht Club is very convenient, unlike like most fuel docks that have posted hours, this dock is open 24 hours a day. It is all self-serve, with a credit card reader on the pump.
After fueling up we headed to Rondout Yacht Basin in Kingston NY.
Kingston is a typical New York waterfront town. When we did our Loop we stayed there for two nights. This time we are only staying one night. We did not our reservations early enough and could not get a slip at the town marina, and ended up about ½ mile away from the town waterfront. That in itself would not be a problem, except it is on the other side of the creek from town. A quick look at Google Maps, said it was only a 15 minute walk to town. When we were at the marina and Googled it, the first direction it gave was to walk across the creek!!! Next it said a 20 minute bike ride, Except we would have had to take a very long route to a highway to get there. When we asked the dockmaster the best way to get to town, he told us to use our dinghy. Even though he has a car, he still prefers using a dinghy to get to town. He said driving takes forever because of road construction.
Before we could head into town I had to repair the fiberglass damage to the boat. Matt (Inconseavable) came prepared, he had a small fiberglass repair kit onboard, and I had the sander. It took about 45 minutes for a quick repair. When we get back to Bordentown I will have to finish the repair but for now it is good enough to travel with. The rest of the repairs are the cosmetic repairs.
After repairing the boat, Angel and I took the dinghy into town. When we were looking for a place to tie up our dinghy, Runaway (Donna & Chris) offered to let us tie up to their boat. (One of the great things about loopers is that they are always ready to help other loopers.) They also told us that they and several other loopers were getting ready to tour the Maritime Museum, and invited us to join them. That was a pleasant surprise for us, as it is normally closed Mondays and Tuesday, and it was closed when we were there two years ago. The dockmaster was opening it up just for the loopers staying there.
After the touring the museum I headed back to the boat to grab my wallet that I forgot, and pickup Matt & Ilene (Inconseavable). Angel heading to Docktails with the other loopers, Docktails were at Ole Savannah's a local bar and restaurant. Not only were the happy hour prices reasonable, everyone got a free appetizer. It turned out to be a great night.
One of the shops that Angel and I visited was the local pastry and coffee shop. Their doughnuts are awesome. They make them fresh to order while you wait. I decided that it would be well worth the dinghy ride to come back over in the morning for fresh doughnuts. Matt and I agreed to head over at 6:45, two great ways to start the day, boat ride and doughnuts. Right after that we pulled our lines and headed to Shady Harbor Marina, in Kingston NY.

Gene Lillie Sounds like another great trip! Are you impacted by the smoke from the wildfires?
