Hello again!
We set off from Wanaka pretty early and arrived in Queenstown about lunchtime on Sunday 10th. We had a wander around and it was a lovely day so we decided to go on the Gondola and the Luge ride. The gondola was a cable car that took us up really high so we could get some good views of Queenstown, the lake and the snowy mountains. After taking some photos we all went on the luge ride. It was really good it was a bit like go-karting with an 800m track to go down. Carol took it slowly and caused a bit of a pile up on one corner! We spent a bit of time at the end taking in the views and watching one of the bungy jumps.
That evening after watching some of the olympics we went to meet Jenny & Kate in their hostel and had a few drinks with them. It was a good evening.
The next day myself, Carol and Matt got up at 6am for our day trip to Milford Sound, which is a spectacular fjord. It is the top thing to do in New Zealand and it really didn't let us down. It was a long trip as there is only one road to Milford Sound. We stopped off at a few places on the way including the town of Te Anau. After Te Anau we began the journey down the only road to Milford Sound. We stopped off at various viewing points and the Mirror Lakes and The Chasm. On a calm day, which we had, the Mirror Lakes reflect the mountains all around and it was beautiful to see. We arrived at Milford Sound around 1pm and took the boat cruise out along the fjord. It was absolutely beautiful and there were a lot of waterfalls and we saw a few seals. After the boat trip we got back on the coach to Queenstown and arrived about 7pm.
Tuesday we had a lazy day. We got up late and had a wander around town before getting a Fergburger, which is something people have been telling us to get since we started travelling. It was the best burger in the world and it was massive! We headed back to our campsite late afternoon to catch up with some more olympics before Matt, Mark and I headed out for some drinks later on. It was a good night, Cazza is poor and stayed in, and we rolled in aorund 4am!!
Wednesday was our last full day in Queenstown and again we had a lazy day. Cazza and I split off and we both went for a walk around the lake and shops before meeting up later on at the campsite. In the evening we rang Dad to say happy birthday and then carried on watching more of the olympics.
Our next stop is the penguin place for Cazza around the city of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula, so until then, bye
