Up early and into town for breakfast. Then to War Graves cemetery - everything here is a bit more touristy / commercial than we've been used to - bus loads of package tourists! Over 6000 Allied soldiers' graves - another poignant reminder of man's capacity for inhumanity! Then looked around the Death Railway Museum - very informative displays, and lots of personal mementos from the POW's.
Rushed to get to the railway station on time, to buy tickets to Nam Tok, only to discover that there would be a 20 min delay. 45 mins later, we finally left the station, to cross The Bridge Over The River Kwai (rhymes with "square"!), and ride the Death Railway north, to Nam Tok. Very busy train - lots of tourists on organized tours!
Some wonderful scenery on the way - the river, with mountains in the far distance. Journey much improved once a majority of the package tourists got off, half way along!
5 min bhat bus to get to Sai Yok Noi waterfall. We all paddled with shoes off - M slipped over twice, and got soaked! Beautiful setting!
Back to station for a much quieter journey back to Kanchanaburi, which included a 25 min stop in the middle of nowhere for three trains to overtake us, and then another 20 min delay while the engine was decoupled and swapped with another engine coming in the opposite direction!
Lovely sunset!
Ate at next door restaurant, again - J decided that he was "too tired", and didn't eat much, so L took him back to room and put him to bed. M had extra free ice cream!
