Elliott wanted to call this entry 'sleeps on a plane' (as a thumbs up to the Samuel L. Jackson hit 'Snakes on a Plane'), and post pictures of how good he was at sleeping on a plane. He was optimistic about how much sleep he would get. Rianna actually slept really well, which she is putting down to the fact that she has never had a 'body clock' (you're all making it up).
We stopped at Santiago airport on our way to Buenos Aires. We were level with the mountains as we flew in and we could see them all around us as we sat at the airport. We're hoping to have time to see Santiago properly.
It was a beautiful day in Buenos Aires when we arrived, with many people having picnics on the side of busy roads. When we arrived at our first hostel we were a little alarmed to find it locked up and seemingly abandoned. After ringing the door bell several times and our taxi driver (who at first seemed concerned and wanted to make sure we would be ok) gesturing several times to ask if he was off the hook, a friendly man with giant hands answered the door. We were quickly showed to our room. It was clean, bed bug free and had a bidet which Elliott mistook for a toilet he could use from the shower (he got a shock when later flushing it).
The following morning we went to the San Telmo Markets, about a 20 minute walk from our hostel. The stores were full mostly with art, handcrafts, and jewellery and there were a variety of street permormers (tango dancers to marionette shows). We could meander through at our own pace, taking in the great variety of sounds, smells and sights. It was also a good opportunity to have a crack at some Spanish. Rianna has found she is not as awesome as she hoped with Spanish, so we really do need the practice.
We went to the Recoleta cemetery today, which is known as one of the most beautfiul in the world. It really was amazing, and deserves a few photos and description that we don't have time for tonight - getting up at 5am for our flight to the Patagonia region, so excited!
