These were not, however, your standard Australian bus hours, filled with alcoholics and casual racism, but much more exciting than that, featuring 3-hour late buses, bipolar cabins alternating between steam baths and freezers, roadside diners with unusual hours, a five hour wait in Puerto Suarez in scorching heat, miniature emus-come-dinosaur-bird, a small child with a head wound and a Chilean Angel named Francisca without whom we would have been more lost and confused than is safe to think about.
