We began the day at the Condor and Eagle cafe for breakfast, a little place run by an Irishman and his Bolivian wife serving excellent coffee and juice with decent breakfast fare also. After breakfast, we headed out for a walk along the shore of Lake Titicaca and were joined by an honour guard of the local strays, largely big, bushy, collie type dogs that were incredibly friendly! At one stage we were accompanied by a group of 8, much to the surprise of onlookers.
Returning from our walk we stopped at one of the rooftop lakeside bars for a spot of lunch and dubious pisco sours. We then decided to do a spot of sightseeing around the more inland Copacabana and wandered up towards the central plaza and church, again accompanied by strays! After seeing the church, a monstrous white thing filled with gold bits, we continued ambling through the streets, somehow winding up in the agricultural areas and very lost! Rather than doing the smart thing and retracing our steps, the idea came up that "Hey, Copacabana is on the lake, and I can see lake over there, let's follow the shoreline".
Bad move.
Firstly, the shore of Lake Titicaca is not sand, but knee to waist and taller boulders, and secondly, Lisa's body had decided that it felt the afternoon was a fine time for fainting. Lastly, we had only two hours to make it to the bus, and no idea how far we had to go! Long story short, we made it; cut, sunburnt, dehydrated, and with barely 10 minutes to spare, but we made it! A quick celebratory drink later and we were on the bus to Peru, leaving an eventful chapter in Bolivia behind.
