Craig + Merles Round The World Trip
Found out today that yesterday was the kings 60th year on the throne. Everyone loves him here, not like our royalty! There was fireworks at 8 o'clock, and everyone wears a yellow t-shirt, as that's the colour for royalty here.
Today was an action packed day.
We were picked up at 10 o'clock for a tour of the city. For only 6 pounds each, we got a tour of the city in a swish car with our own tour guide who was very nice.
First we saw the Golden Buddha which is solid gold, and weighs 5.5 tonnes. Then it was off to Wat Po, where the Reclining Buddha is housed. It's 46 metres long. The photo didn't do it's size justice.
After seeing temples, we took a riverboat tour. It wasn't very steady! Every time we turned, it felt as if we were going to tip! From the river we saw kids swimming, the King's palace, universities and heaps of other stuff. We went through a slum area, and I swear I saw a croc lurking in the water!
Next was the gem place. Gold was dirt cheap, and so was all the stones and what not.
The tailors was after that. I had a suit made for me, and I get it on Tuesday. Very cheap, so I'll send it home for safe keeps.
We also saw a handicrafts shop, but never bought anything. Had some very nice furniture though. Chairs made in the shape the wood grew. Very nice, and only American $2500 for a set of 4 with table!
Trip took almost 6 hours, so since then, we've been doing nothing. We've had something to eat at Burger King. They do a really nice Teryaki burger with pineapple here. A mix up meant I got 2 burgers, so I'm feeling a bit full now.
Well, it's time to sign off for today. England v Paraguay beckons. Mon' the Paraguay!
