Sydney is Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
I fell in love with Sydney within 24 hours of getting here. There's so much to do and see here. On the first day we just chilled out and explored our surrounding area in Kings Cross. Kings Cross is apretty seedy area. The street behind us is packed with strip joints galore, and there are heaps of prostitutes lurking about too (all majorly ugly I may add). Despite this, it's still a good place to stay at due to it's central location. We're within walking distance of Oxford Street, the main shopping area, Opera House etc...
On day 2 we went to see the Opera House. It looks just as good as in the photo's. We did an hour long tour of the place and ehard about the history of the building. The main theatre is really nice. Then we went to the Botanic Gardens. They're huge. It was a nice place to just sit and relax in the sun or the shade. We spent a while there then walked to Hyde Park and the shops. From there we got the train back. The train system is really good here.
On day 3 we went to Darling harbour. We went round the Aquarium there then did a bit of exploring, like seeing the shopping centres in the area etc. The buskers in this city are really cool. There was a human beatbox guy doing Axel F, the Rocky Theme and heaps of other stuff. He was really good. There was also a japanese guy doing keepie uppies, but he was only alright. We found thenewiPod shuffle for less than 44 quid. We also saw all the Christmas displays in the windows. One shop has about 6 different windows, all with puppets in portraying a christmas tune, which is also playing over a speaker. That's where the picture of the dirty elves came from in my photo album!
On day 4 we took a boat tour of Sydney Harbour. This was really fun. The view from the water is amazing. There's a point where you can see the whole harbour which stretches for about 8km. We stopped at Circular Quay to have a look round the are called the Rocks. This is where the south side of the Harbour Bridge is, so we walked around and tried to find the Pylon Lookout on the bridge but were unsuccessful. Next stop was Watsons Bay. This a really nice bay with lots of boats sitting on the small beach. Very picturesque. We sat and had our sandwiches there and enjoyed the view before going for and ice cream. I had a really nice berry gelato. Mmmm! We decided not to stop at the zoo and to just stay on until the end. After that we jsut dossed about some more, taking in some more shops before heading back to the hostel. That night we went to a small cafe for tea called Joes Cafe, on Victoria street. The food was great. I had a satay chicken burger. It was proper strips of chicken cooked in Sweet Chilli sauce with lots of Satay sauce on top. The sauce was nice and sweet and had heaps of peanuts in it too.
Day 5 (yesterday) was a visit to Bondi. I'll put the photo's up the next chance I get. Like everyone says, Bondi is not that bag and is overcrowded, but it's still a nice area. The waves are huge, and there are so many surfers there too. I went in the water for a while and tried to surf the waves on my body, but it was hard work. Some guys were able to swim with the wave for a bit then push themselves up on top of the wave and stay like that for some time. I only managed 10-20 feet. After this we went home and watched some of the first day of the Ashes (come on you Aussies!) before heading out for food and settling down in front of the tv for the night.
That takes me to today. Today has been a wasted day pretty much. We were planning on going to the Blue Mountains, but we're going tomorrow instead. So we just decided to walk about and explore the city some more. We headed down Victoria Street on to Oxford Street, and before we knew it, we were back at the big shopping district we've already been to twice! We're actually contemplating going to the cinema now as we have no more ideas on what to do. So we've only got one more day here then off to Melbourne where Merle will celebrate her birthday.
So till next time, goodbye
