Today we were up early for our caving trip. We went to the ATM caves which involved a 45 minute hike through the jungle, and crossing 3 rivers (which had really swelled due the huge rainfall they've been having); then once we arrived at the entrance to the caves we had a further 30 min swim / wade through the cave to get to some ancient Mayan remains and artifacts. We left Antigua early this morning, and made our way out towards Rio Dulce which is a little town on a lake. On the way we stopped off at Quiriga, which is a set of Mayan ruins just off the highway. Its only one of the smaller ruins but there were still quite a few sculptures and some of them were amazingly well preserved, lots of altars and zoomorphs!! (pictures will be here soon).
